Brussels: Art Nouveau Brussels Tour

Two days: the icons, then the real Brussels

Two days is the comfortable minimum for Brussels — enough to tick off the famous sights and discover what makes the city special. Day one does the historic centre; day two reveals the Art Nouveau, comics and museums that win people over. This is the ideal weekend plan, all walkable or a short tram ride. For the bigger picture, see how many days in Brussels.

Day 1 — the historic centre

Morning: Grand-Place early (guide), the Galeries Royales for chocolate, Manneken-Pis (guide), and the lower-town lanes. A guided walk sets the scene.

Lunch: Sainte-Catherine seafood or frites from a friterie (best frites) — never on the Grand-Place (traps).

Afternoon: the Sablon (Marcolini, Wittamer, the church — guide), then downhill to the Marolles flea market (guide).

Evening: a beer in a historic café (best beer bars), then dinner in Dansaert/Saint-Géry (best restaurants).

Day 2 — the side that wins people over

Morning — Art Nouveau. Book the Horta Museum (guide) and walk the Art Nouveau façades of Saint-Gilles (guide). A guided Art Nouveau tour gets you inside more houses.

Lunch: café or brunch around Flagey or Châtelain in Ixelles (breakfast & brunch); don’t miss Frit Flagey.

Afternoon — choose your Brussels:

  • Art lovers: the Magritte and Royal Fine Arts on the Mont des Arts (best museums).
  • Comics fans: the Comics Art Museum + the mural hunt (murals map).
  • Families: the Atomium and Mini-Europe at Heysel (with kids).

A hidden-gems tour is a great way to fill the afternoon with the lesser-known city.

Evening: a food or beer experience, or dinner in Ixelles among the locals.

Tips for two days

  • Book ahead: the Horta Museum and any tours, especially weekends.
  • Stay central near a metro line (where to stay) so day two’s tram hops are easy (getting around).
  • Mix indoor and outdoor each day so weather can’t derail you (rainy day).
  • Weekend rates at hotels are often cheaper — Brussels is a business city.
